Lots of info scattered all over the place

This book has TONS of information but good luck finding it.

Man, was I excited to get this book. Finally, a know-how book with enough info to help me build whatever I want and sort through the notation! Right?

Imagine my disappointment when I opened the book expecting to find a chart defining all the terms within the first few pages, and I couldn't find it. Where is it? I start skimming the text and I see those letters with subscripts scattered here and there like annoying gray dandelion balls in the front yard. So I keep flipping backward, expecting to see them defined somewhere. Nope... nope... wait... there's some of them... but where is Q? And what is f_s? Flipping... flipping... and now I'm on the first page in Chapter 0 and I haven't found a definition for Q. He talks about it, but never defines it. So I go for the index. Oh wait... there IS no index. But there is a bunch of annoying advertisements in the back like the car magazines I read every month. So I check the table of contents - finally after a few minutes I find Q defined somewhere around page 24 in Chapter 1, but he mentions it repeatedly before then.

There are two rules I've learned about technical writing:

1) Tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them.

2) Re-invent the wheel so your readers don't have to.

Vance Dickason must have lost these rules of thumb in the piles of papers he's sure to have on his desk. If he would just spend some time taking more pictures, drawing more basic diagrams, and placing easy to read tables at the early parts of chapters, this book would be fantastic! But in the meantime, be prepared to read for a long time.

Not for Beginners - Some Gems for Enthusiasts and Pro's

Warning: This book is not for beginners. Hard core hobbyists or speaker design professionals may find some useful models, empirical studies and references in this book. For the beginner, the minimum vital data needed to design and build a speaker is interwoven in to a jumble of esoteric empirical tests and computer simulations. For the more experienced speaker builder, the depth of this book is great and the footnote references are very complete. While the breadth is great, the depth of technical explanation for fundamental speaker enclosure modeling physics was a lacking. I guess I need to buy another book or research the footnotes myself.

This book could be a lot better with some solid editing. The writing - for the most part - is clear, but there are sections that are hard to read and there are some errors. The fonts are too small (many of the subscripts are illegible). The graphics are horrible. The book has over 100 frequency domain plots (developed with speaker CAD packages), which are illegible and poorly labeled. Most of the graphics are nowhere near the text.

I give this book two stars because of the breadth and the references, but it's no cookbook. You won't be able to look up a recipe and cook up a speaker.

Valuable New information for Mediators

This newly revised edition of The Promise of Mediation offers a wealth of new information on the priniciples of transformative conflict intervention. Many readers may not be aware that the revised edition actually contains almost entirely new material, reflecting new understandings of transformative mediation that have developed since the publication of the first edition. Bush and Folger offer new specifics for practice in the transformative framework of mediation through a carefully analyzed case study, in which we can see details of the "small steps" of conflict transformation. They also discuss the impact that the transformative movement has had on the field as a whole, and debunk some common misconceptions about the transformative framework. I have especially enjoyed the last chapter, which addresses, more completely than anything in the first edition, the deep underlying values that have led to the articulation of a transformative vision for mediation, and looks at possibilities for the future of the field.

This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone interested in mediation, conflict, or just the interaction of human beings.

A Huge Step Forward in the Art and Science of Mediation

I'm grateful to the authors for the significant advance in mediation thinking that this book represents. This new edition has the potential to move the entire field toward a deeper, more powerful understanding. With the original edition, and again with this one, Bush and Folger have provided great clarity to a topic that, until now, has been muddled. While other mediators and writers succumb to the pressures of conflict and become part of the problem, these authors instruct us on how to remain true to the most important principles that lead to deep healing of human conflict. If I had the need, I would only hire a mediator who had read, studied, understood and embraced this book.

A Worthwhile Sequel

This is the follow-up to the authors' watershed first edition of the book by the same name, and contrary to the fate of most sequels, this one's really worthwhile. Indeed, it's largely a new book, rather than a mere revision; it fully updates the reader on the journey and developments in "transformative mediation" over the decade since the authors' first book with the same title was published in 1995. For anyone with an interest in the transformative model of mediation (as contrasted with, for example, facilitative or evaluative mediation), this is the best, most comprehensive, and well-written volume available.

Fantastic Souvenir

I love this book. The illustrations are bright, colorful and fun. The story is clever and flows very nicely. I adore both the author and illustrator.

I bought this as a souvenir for my daughter of our year spent in England because of all the British words in it. "Come to Tea" actually means come to lunch/dinner. They also use: biscuits=cookie, row=loud noise, jelly=jello, tucking in=sitting down to eat, and mummies=mommies.

Joe Habraken is a computer technology professional, educator, and best-selling author with more than 25 years of experience in the information technology and digital media production fields. His books include numerous titles on the Microsoft Office application suite, computer networking, and Microsoft’s Windows Server network platform. Titles include Que’s Microsoft Office 2013 In Depth and Sams Teach Yourself Windows Server 2008 in 24 Hours. Joe is an associate professor of Communication at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, where he teaches a variety of digital media and information technology courses.

Provides a comprehensive overview of Microsoft Office 2016

This book offers an almost 1000 page introduction to the capabilities and features of Microsoft Office 2016. There are sections that delve into using Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Publisher and OneNote. For most users (all but daily power users) , the material in this book will be sufficient to guide them through most everything they need to do with documents, spreadsheets, emails and presentations.The examples are helpful and complete - making it easy to implement the author's suggestions. If you are new to Office 2016 - or just think you need more details on how to use Office more effectively - then you should benefit from reading this book (and having it on hand for reference).

Figures Too Tiny to See

The text is good, but the figures are too small to be read by the human eye. I don't want to have to use a magnifying glass to read the book.

The content and the layout of thie eBook are excellent. I prefer the eBook to the printed version

The content and the layout of thie eBook are excellent.
I prefer the eBook to the printed version, because I can read it on my Kindles and also on the Computer and that I can activate Hyperlinks.

Other important reasons are, that it is part of a series of eBooks with the same layout about Windows!0 and all Programs of the Microsoft Office Suite 2016, that updates are free of charge and that it costs about only 50% of the printed versons

Some additional features would help, to master all the explained features of Office 2016, like using graphical maps or checklists, which help to apply all features without having to read all the text again.
