Greg Banish is a powertrain calibration engineer for one of the world's largest auto manufacturers where his daily routine includes reviewing engine performance and emissions data using the latest in industry technologies. He also operates Calibrated Success, Inc. Great value for money... Except for one small thing!

This isn't going to be like my other review of this author's previous book. This one is great value for money except for the fact that after reading it you become a little depressed when you have to accept the fact that you cannot clone him and keep him around your shop 24 hours a day. I dare you to find a better book about this stuff. I literally dare you.

I'm going to be a bit harsh and deduct one star from my previous 5 star rating because upon giving this book a second read I DID discover one "small" thing that I think is significant enough to hamper a reader of this book in their attempts to fully grasp what is being explained. If you jump to chapter 10 there's a perfect example you can use to follow my logic. At the bottom left corner on page 76, Greg begins to explain a topic of particular interest to most tuners (especially myself)which is the process of populating the volumetric efficiency table, without the luxury of a reference base map to use as a start point.

Now while I find no fault with the actual information that is presented, I do think that the principles would be much easier to grasp and to follow if the information coincided with what is displayed in the table snapshots next to what is being read. So for example on page 78 the 3rd column of text begins to explain where to apply an RPM specific correction to an entire column and it goes on to advise using this correction value to populate all of the values in the VE table above this same engine speed. Meanwhile there are a whopping FOUR snapshot table illustrations surrounding this body of text but not one of them shows an example of what you should see after applying these corrections. Therefore even though both the book and the illustrations give excellent information, The illustrations don't reinforce exactly what you're reading but rather attempt to tell their own story in their own way. Even if this approach was decided upon by the author as the best way to present the information, I still think that certain topics such as the one in my example should be carefully illustrated with graphic tables to reinforce what is being read by providing an easy to follow graphic example.

Buy this book!

Greg is an OEM calibrator who actually went to college for this stuff. He's worked at Ford and GM, in the tuning department. He's had his own tuning shop. He teaches tuning. He teaches SCT's Advanced Tuning class. This is his second book. I've read them both, and attended his SCT class. I can guarantee that they don't come any sharper than him, when it comes to tuning.

As an added bonus, he seems to know how to write in way that's easy to understand, no matter what your experience level. I've read lots of other tuning books, been to EFI University and read Ben Straders book as well, and in my opinion none of them are near as good as this book. So go buy it.

This book covers speed density computers more specifically, such as FAST, Big Stuff, Accel, etc. But the details in it still apply to all tuning. His other book, Engine Management: Advanced Tuning covers the Mass Air cars (most OEM EFI systems) a little more closely. Either way, if you're trying to learn to tune, or want to know more about how EFI works, buy both books. Unfortunately, I can't say very good things about any of the other tuning books I've read. Most are poorly written, way to short and simple, or just don't help much.

Greg Banish definitely "wrote the book"! Starting with very basic inter combustion chamber engine function you go deep into tuning fuel injection with some looks at methodology and function. Very good for Tuners. I highly recommend his "Tuning" book in conjunction with this book. Greg Banish teaches this subject quite well.

I have been waiting for this story for what seems like forever. Toby and Raziel have been big players in this series since the beginning and the author has teased me with the promise of their HEA for too long. However, I have had this one in my possession for some time but have not been able to bring myself to read it. This is for several reasons. The first is that this is the final installment of a series I have loved since the prequel and I am not ready for it to end. The second reason is that I knew this would be an emotional story. Even the blurb itself brought forth a reaction from me. But I could not put this off any longer so I finally broke down and read it.

And I was so right. It was emotional. It was a bit hopeless at first, with poor Tobyy hidden away where the guardian could not sense him. Then it got a bit hopeful with “Raven” making an appearance and the author letting the reader know he was not what he seemed. Then I was happy when “Raven,” who actually turned out to be Rogan (Roman’s father and demi-god) gave Eydan what for and sent him to be eternally punished for his bad behavior. Then things turned to love and my heart soared because Raziel and Toby finally got to be together in real life, not just mentally. Oh I was so ecstatic that they could finally be together after so much suffering. And then came the fear and sadness as Toby did what I knew he would do. He sacrificed himself to save the world. But NO! He and Raziel just met and now Toby was being taken away again. Then there was restrained hope and admiration as the guardians banned together to try to save Toby. And holy s***! Raziel’s true angelic form is revealed and WOW just WOW.

Finally, amazement and happiness returned as Raziel and Toby were saved by Raziel’s father. I cried a bit here as Raziel’s father was so selfless in his love that he made the ultimate sacrifice to save his son and his son’s mate.

This final installment of the Preternatural Rescue Centre series wrapped up the series arc nicely and left things in a great place. I know this series will not be for everyone, but I have loved these men from the very beginning and am so sad to see them go. But while I am going to miss them all, the ending was satisfying and I am looking forward to more of Ms. Cross’s works.

Outstanding First Jewish Revolt Survey for Serious Research

Thankfully the author rearranged his doctoral dissertation in writing this book. It is a chronological narrative rather than the inherently repetitious thematic format typical of theses. Lengthy scholarly debates and asides have been relegated to 14 appendices that take up almost half the book. For my own purposes, research on the military history of the rebellion, those on Jewish army strengths, structure, weapons and fighting methods were invaluable. Price believes that Josephus, in his effort to point the finger at a few of the rebel factions...the so-called Zealots and the Sicarii-- did not probe deeply enough to reveal the basic divisions among the different social classes, religious groups, leadership, and economic interests in Judaea. In hilighting these internal fractures, he necessarily concentrates upon the infighting in the capital (68/69) and Titus' siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE, the previous four years of the war being covered in a few enlightening chapters. Given the controversial nature of Josephus, our principal informant, Price engages in historiographical discussion throughout the book, trying to re-read Josephus from the viewpoint of the Jewish resistance. He has provided ample discussion in footnotes where he differs with modern authorities. His discussion of the proper use of Josephus, in the text and the appendices, is exemplary. However, given the cost of the book and it's scholarly, though readable, approach, those with a more casual interest in the revolt should probably try to dig up a copy of the Penguin edition of Josephus' Jewish War.
This book definitely fills a void. Studies of the military aspect of the Great Revolt are very hard to find. One must scour the scattered backfiles of theological journals, archaelogical series and classical reviews. Jerusalem Under Siege will serve as a definitive reference on the nature and course of military operations as well as the quality of the Jewish leadership.
Large metropolitann libraries and university collections should own this book.

I have been reading this book for a graduate level ...

I have been reading this book for a graduate level course. I would say Brown and Lee do not provide enough examples of concepts they are talking about, specifically in the Speaking, Reading, Listening portions of their book. They are also oddly non-specific in the boxes meant to expound more on a concept mentioned in the paragraph above it. This book leaves something to be desired but is an interesting read regarding pedagogy and why we should or shouldn't teach a certain way.

A good resource for new ESL teachers. I'm not new and so I used this recent edition to compare to an earlier one; there wasn't much difference when I compared the two sections I was interested in, but it's a good idea to purchase the most recent edition of an ESL textbook if it's available for just a few dollars more.

This book is full of a lot of 'obvious' information about ESL teaching 'theory'.
It is dry, boring, and hard to read through.

The only reason I'm using it is because the professor requires it for class.

I'm glad I rented this book rather than buying it because I would never keep
this book once I've finished the class.

Nirad C.Chaudhuri lived in Calcutta and Delhi before settling in England in 1970. Nirad C.Chaudhuri began writing his first book "Autobiography of an Unknown Indian" in1947,and it was published in England in 1951.An instant success,the book received universal critical acclaim.In 1955,at the age of 57,Chaudhuri first visited England to broadcast a series of talks for the BBC,and this memorable journey prompted him to write The Passage to England.He won the Duff Cooper Memorial Prize,and received the Hon.D.Litt.of the Oxford University and the CBE bestoed by the Queen of England.He lived in Oxford,England till his death in 1999.

Ignorant reviews should be banned!

The relation to India of Circe is simple.
If one reads th ebook once it willbe known.
Circe was a beautiful lady in Greek Mythology.
ANYONE who saw her no matter how pious and sinless he would become cunning to obtain her.

India is as beautiful as CIRCE.
ALL invaders who looked at her from Aryans, to Mughals to the British became scoundrels and tried to rape her, and pillage her and never had good intentions for her.

A Classic book.
It is at par with socrates and plato for Indians.
Category it coems udner is Psycho-History.

Ruminations of an ill-informed old man

Nirad Chaudhuri, in The Continent of Circe (Circe, a Greek mythological character, whose relation to India remains unexplained) propounds the same old 'white supremacy' theories that have already been rejected, including the so-called "Invasion of Aryans" (of the continent) to his own warped interpretation of Hinduism. He wishes to show-off his talent in Latin and other European languages (with no footnotes) and I am, because of my lack of erudition, unable to judge the level of his understanding. Overall, this is a severely biased and incorrect interpretation of the history and social conditions of the Indian subcontinent, by a crusty old lackey of the British empire. Thankfully, he left India and settled in England and is now dead and gone!

re: Nirad C Chowdhry - an extraordinary scholar

Nirad C Chowdhry was an extra-ordinary scholar so inebriated with his superior literary skills that he thought he was a professional historian, an anthropologist and a social scientist as well. He was a failure financially in India, so vented his anger against the govt. and Indian people etc. When his Indian wife died, we migrated to UK to work and he married a Brit. UK rewarded his work as it benefited them in some way. He was a colonial "left over" and he (rightfully) stank.
In summary, he NEVER engaged in any positive criticism about his country and his people.

Myers frankly discusses the consequences of violence, drive-bys and gang war through his articulate characters, but tempers these episodes with such a love of his fictional community that every character shines through with the hope and strength of a survivor. Changing his point of view from teen to adult and back again through each vignette, Myers successfully builds a bridge of understanding between adolescents and adults that will help each group better understand the problems of the other. In a kind of literary Rear Window, Myers (The Blues of Flats Brown, reviewed above) uses 10 short stories to create snapshots of a pulsing, vibrant community with diverse ethnic threads, through all of its ups and downs. Beginning with the tale of a wry character who stages his own funeral on a sweltering 4th of July to celebrate the money he has received from canceling his life insurance policy, Myers then follows with a chilling story of a cop shootout gone wrong. Many of the stories are told through the voices of witty, intelligent teens; Jamie Farrell, in particular, is a standout as he relates his changing luck in "The Streak" and makes other cameo appearances. But even the more poignant stories told in the third person--such as that of Billy Giles, a middling fighter hired by the local gym to make contenders look good, and "Angela's Eyes," infused with superstition, in which Angela possesses the ability to foresee death and destruction through her late father's eyes--keep an inviting, conversational tone. Myers creates an overall effect of sitting on the front stoop swapping stories of the neighborhood. Most readers will find that they could settle in for hours and take it all in. Ages 12-up.

Grade 6 Up-Myers draws upon his experiences growing up in Harlem to create these 10 interconnected stories about a neighborhood inhabited by colorful, memorable characters. Teens figure prominently in these selections, but adults of varying ages also play dominant roles. One of the funniest characters is a fellow named Big Joe, who decides to organize his own funeral while he's still alive to enjoy it. One of the most memorable tales is "Monkeyman," in which a teen stands up to the local gang. A host of other characters come to life. These finely drawn personalities come together in the final story, the celebratory "Block Party-145th Street Style." People in the neighborhood have to put up with crime, police brutality, and poverty, but there are fun times, too. Myers gets a bit sentimental at times, especially in "A Christmas Story," but there's enough balance here among the emotions to make 145th Street a highly enjoyable short-story collection. What one comes away with after reading it is a vivid sense of place and a vibrant feeling of community.

Good Stories Spun by an Author with a Natural Voice

Walter Dean Myers' collection of short stories focuses on the inhabitants of "145th Street" in Harlem. Each story is well-crafted and geared to readers 12 and up; Delacorte Press is the children's branch of Random House Publishers. However, this volume is fine reading for adults as well as children.
The stories share characters, settings, and tone. Myers does an excellent job avoiding bad language while maintaining the vernacular and rhythms of the rich characters that he portrays. Myers has a knack for giving his characters life and credibility. Myers manages to give a sense of adult versus youth dialect in leading us through the concrete realities of Harlem.
Although characters are repeated in the stories, sometimes as background and others as key characters, each story stands on its own and may be read in any order without loss of continuity. In other words, the stories do not build on one another like chapters in a novel.
Each of the ten stories strikes a chord in the reader and "shows" rather than just "tells" you the pressures, fears, and joys of living in the "hood." Human emotion is itself a character throughout the collection and the story lines are expertly constructed to avoid being preachy while relating theme and the moral undercurrent of the human struggle with choices that must be made every day on 145th street.
I particularly enjoyed "Big Joe's Funeral" and "A Christmas Story." Big Joe is a restaurant owner and has his own particular, unique, and large view of what a funeral ought to be about. The Christmas tale delicately balances the spirit of Christmas against the desire of a policeman to separate his personal life from the harshness of the beat he walks.
Every story in this collection is interesting and entertaining. As a sampler, it has whetted my appetite for more of Walter Dean Myers' books. I highly recommend this collection for young or old readers and those who simply appreciate a good story spun by an author with a natural voice.

another coup for the amazing WD Myers

So much attention has been given to Christopher Paul Curtis lately, but it seems to me the prolific work of Walter Dean Myers needs a loud cheering section--so here goes. Two customer reviews, "Another Stunning Work..." and "Good Stories Spun..." give thorough synopses of this anthology. I'll add that my middle schoolers LOVED these stories when I bought the book last spring, and I plan on reading it with my seventh graders later this year too. The stories are combinations of slick, sad, silly, and serious, and therefore one story was able to hook the kids into reading another and another. One 12 year old boy in my class was so intrigued by a character named Peaches--described as "so fine"--that he paid attention to everything else we read from the book hoping she'd turn up again. And she did! Walter Dean Myers just has a keen sense of the world and his gift with words makes reading this, and any, book by him a pleasure.

It Realated![.]

I really liked the book because it realated or reminded me of being back home! Back home it seemed like everywhere around where i stayed everybody knew everybody, and thats the way the book was. On 145th street it seemed like everything happened and when it did everybody knew about it! i Also like the book because i like how he makes it sound like we're all sitting around listening to someone tell what happened earlier that day! The stories i really injoyed were Big Joe's funeral, and The Baddest Dog in harlem! I m really loking forward to reading more of his books!
